Is Shakshuka Sauce Healthy? Here’s What’s Actually In It

Is Shakshuka Sauce Healthy? Here’s What’s Actually In It
I get asked this a lot, and I love that people are curious about it, because the answer is genuinely yes, and for really good reasons.
Let’s Start With What’s In It, My Shakshuka sauce has four main ingredient: tomatoes, capsicum, chilli, and garlic. That’s it. No fillers, no artificial anything, no ingredients you can’t pronounce. Just real food, the way my grandmother Zohara made it in Casablanca.
I also use Australian extra virgin olive oil and sea salt, because if you’re going to make something, you may as well make it properly.
Why That Actually Matters?
Tomatoes are packed with Vitamin C and lycopene, which is a powerful antioxidant. Cooking tomatoes actually makes the lycopene even easier for your body to absorb so a warm, saucy dish like Shakshuka is one of the best ways to get it.
Capsicum is quietly one of the most nutrient-dense vegetables around.
It’s high in Vitamin C, actually even higher than oranges and adds a natural sweetness to the sauce without any added sugar.
Chilli has long been celebrated for its metabolism-boosting properties and its anti-inflammatory benefits. And in Shakshuka, it’s used in a balanced way, enough for warmth and flavour, not enough to blow your head off!
Garlic is basically nature’s superfood. It’s been used for its health properties for thousands of years and adds incredible depth to the sauce.
Australian extra virgin olive oil is the good stuff, full of healthy fats and antioxidants, and a cornerstone of the Mediterranean and North African diets that are consistently ranked among the healthiest in the world.
And It’s Naturally Gluten Free.
Yep, no gluten, no dairy in the sauce itself. It fits beautifully into so many different ways of eating, whether you’re gluten free, dairy free, or just trying to eat a bit more whole food.
The Bottom Line, When you’re eating Shakshuka, you’re eating something made from real, wholesome ingredients with a long history of nourishing people. That feels pretty good, right?
